Amiri Law Firm Professional Corporation is a Toronto-based international boutique law firm structured for complex, high-stakes mandates at the intersection of domestic and international legal frameworks. The practice is deliberately focused on rights-based matters that require disciplined litigation capability, careful record-building, and strategic clarity. The firm acts for individuals, civil society organizations, and select institutional clients where the issues are multi-jurisdictional, sensitive, and consequential.
The firm’s work is supported by sustained engagement with international legal networks and multilateral initiatives, enabling domestic advocacy to be advanced with a clear understanding of international obligations, accountability standards, and evolving jurisprudence. The objective is to deliver representation that is precise, discreet, and effective in the forums where outcomes are shaped.
The firm’s approach is defined by early issue identification, realistic risk assessment, and a clear litigation or advocacy pathway from the outset. Mandates are developed through rigorous evidence management and tightly framed legal submissions. Where resolution is achievable, the focus is on durable outcomes. Where proceedings are required, the firm advances measured, well-prepared advocacy before the Court or tribunal.

Shiva Amiri is the Founder and Principal Lawyer of Amiri Law Firm P.C. and a Barrister and Solicitor licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. Her practice combines Court advocacy with international human rights engagement, advising and representing clients in strategic litigation, immigration and refugee protection, and complex family and child protection disputes with cross-border dimensions. She has appeared before the Federal Court of Canada, the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, and specialized tribunals including the Immigration and Refugee Board. She also has experience supporting appellate advocacy, including matters before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and works with co-counsel where a mandate requires additional appellate capacity.
Ms. Amiri serves as the Diversity and Inclusion Officer of the International Bar Association Human Rights Law Committee. She has contributed to, and helped convene, high-profile programming on institutional accountability and atrocity prevention. Her IBA engagements include speaking roles at the IBA Annual Conference on The Human Rights Impact of Corruption (Toronto, 2025) and participation in a Human Rights Law Committee panel on strategic litigation and gender apartheid (Mexico City, 2024). She has also been involved in the organization and delivery of The Veto: Film Screening and Dialogue during the 2025 IBA Annual Conference in Toronto, a programme examining UN Security Council veto practice and its impact on international responses to atrocity crimes.
Ms. Amiri works with the World Federalist Movement Canada on the Curb the Veto initiative and supported the petition launched in collaboration with the World Federalist Movement Canada calling for a UN General Assembly request for an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on legal limitations on veto-based decision-blocking in atrocity situations. She is a member of the Washington Working Group for the International Criminal Court and participates in allied networks aimed at strengthening international judicial institutions.
Her UN-facing work includes contributions to submissions and research engaging UN human rights mechanisms, including the Universal Periodic Review and treaty-based analysis involving the Convention against Torture and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, including work addressing the Marshall Islands’ nuclear legacy. She has also participated in initiatives linking climate impacts to human rights obligations and previously worked as a writer and editor for a UN-affiliated nonprofit focused on climate change reporting and information management. In addition to litigation and advocacy mandates, Ms. Amiri has advised human rights civil society organizations on strategic legal and policy initiatives.
